Global Community Charter School (GCCS) is a Harlem-based International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that is innovative, inquiry-based, culturally competent, and provides students with a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum that encourages critical and creative thinking. GCCS serves more than 450 students in grades K-6, and is excited to open its inaugural middle school building in Fall 2021 to continue service for students through 8th grade.

Position Overview

The Development Manager will be joining our close-knit, collaborative, and entrepreneurial team at an exciting time in GCCS’s history as it opens its first Middle School. The Manager should be highly motivated and hard-working, and should demonstrate superb communication and analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, a growth mindset, and a willingness to take on large and small tasks alike.

A key member of GCCS’s Operations team, the Development Manager will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The inaugural Development position for the organization will be primarily responsible for managing the strategy development, workflow, and operations of all Development and Fundraising activities. These activities will require essential project coordination and support with particular focus on strategy, infrastructure build, data analysis, planning and implementation. This is an exciting opportunity for an up-and-coming Development leader who is prepared to excel and advance professionally in a fast-paced, scaling organization.

Role and Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position, include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Execute strategies for securing annual funding from individuals, including but not limited to an annual appeal and special campaigns;
  • Implement fundraising strategies that increase foundation, corporate, and government (institutional) support;
  • Manage prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for individual and institutional funders;
  • Work closely with GCCS Academic and Operations staff to effectively communicate to funders through proposals, reports, meetings, invitations to events, and other communications;
  • Manage development calendar and ensure timely submission of LOI’s, proposals, reports, and all requests to meet funder requirements and grant compliance;
  • Project manage donor cultivation and stewardship events, including donor communications and follow up;
  • Prepare materials including presentations, solicitations and reports to the Board;
  • Maintain accurate records through regular upkeep of digital files and database management, including regular development reporting and reconciliation with finance;
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling, calendaring, tracking incoming correspondence, coordinating donor site visits or meetings, running reports, and facilitating meeting preparation, among others;
  • Support other tasks and/or projects as needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a professional office setting
  • Experience supporting senior executives and interacting with board members; ability to build trust and establish rapport with all levels of staff and organizational leadership
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Incredible attention to detail
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments within a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial in resource-constrained environments
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and always exhibit a high level of discretion, diplomacy, and integrity
  • A collaborative team-player, who is committed to excellence and open-minded, demonstrates a growth-mindset, thinks creatively to solve problems, and works with a sense of humor and humility
  • Experience with databases, preferred
  • Experience within and passion for youth development or education is a plus
